Nothing breathes new life into a home like natural elements. Our exotic wood slabs are dramatically formed by nature and finished to perfection by hand. Not only do they bring the outdoors in, but they do so with a sense of style that is both modern and timeless. Every slab in our collection can be reimagined into a stunning surface, such as a dining table or countertop, custom furniture or displayed in its original form as sculpture. Large wood slabs make the perfect work material for the best room accents.
The trees that are used to design our exotic wood slabs are found on private nature reserves and coffee plantations throughout South America. Our exotic natural wood slabs are collected while adhering to strict environmental standards and only from trees that have fallen due to natural events such as storms, avalanches, floods or just the natural effect of time. One tree was said to have been in a river for over 60 years.
Once collected, these trees are taken to our artist studios where they begin their new life as one-of-a-kind works of art. They are sliced lengthwise to create long rectangular surfaces, or cross-cut to create round or free-form surfaces. Leaving the edges unfinished highlights each slab's unique imperfections and natural aesthetic. After they've been cut to their desired size, the live edge wood slabs are submerged in a river for 30 days to absorb water, then placed in a large room-size oven for another 30 days. This step ensures that the pieces dry thoroughly and eliminates any insects that may be living inside. Finally, using a three layer process, the wood slab is finished by hand, using a natural shellac mixed with beeswax acquired from privately owned hives.
The private nature reserves where our wood originates follow a well-established reforestation plan designed for trees that are on the brink of being endangered. With the help of graduate students from local universities, over 40,000 trees have been replanted; some of them already stretching over 30 feet tall. This detailed process of reforestation allows us to guarantee the continued preservation and growth of the local flora and fauna while making a positive impact on our environment by helping species which are in danger of extinction.
By bringing one of these breath-taking exotic wood pieces into your home, you are not only adding unparalleled style to your interior design but you are also supporting reforestation efforts, recovery of endangered species, and improving the health, education and quality of life for families living near these reserves.
